2021 is just around the corner and I'm sure we're all counting down the days to say "Adios!" to this year. Every new year, I love to make goals and write a list of things I want to accomplish for the year ahead. This year in particular, I felt it was important to have a vision board to keep me even more inspired and motivated for 2021.
A vision board allows you to exercise your imagination and bring it from a mere thought in your head to a two-dimensional form on paper.
If you have a strong desire or goal for the new year, a vision board is a must. A vision board allows you to define and develop the skills needed to achieve your goals. By taking the time and dedication to research, plan, design, and implement a vision board, you are putting forth actionable steps towards your desires or goals already.
The Benefits of Creating A Vision Board:
1. A vision board creates an emotional connection to your goals.
When creating a vision board, it's important to use words that describe how you want to feel or what you want to experience in the new year. What feelings, sounds, smell, or sights do you want to experience in the new year?
In my vision board, I added the words "peace, love, and happiness". These are three essential feelings and emotions I want to embrace in the year to come.
2. A vision board brings your goals or dreams to life.
When you make a goal or dream more concrete, it makes it feel more attainable. This is one of the most powerful tools of a vision board. It brings your goals to fruition and allows you to see real progress being made.
A vision board keeps you motivated and inspired to chase your dreams, no matter how big or how small they may feel.
3. A vision board brings clarity and direction.
Maybe you don't know exactly what you want quite yet for the new year. Maybe all you want is a fresh start. That's okay too!
A vision board can help point you in the right direction no matter what. It reflects what your subconscious has been focused on and will bring clarity for what direction you should head in.
Even if you don't have a clear vision of what you want in the new year, it's still a great idea to take some time to put together a few images and words together that stand out to you. You may just find what you're looking for...
How To Create An Effective Vision Board:
1. Use a variety of resources to find inspiration
From Pinterest, to Tumblr, to Instagram, to magazines, to books, to photos on your own camera; There are endless resources to help bring inspiration for your vision board. Gather these images, colors, and words in one spot and review what they all have in common.
The best part about a vision board is that it doesn't have to just be about one topic. You may have a mix of images and words that describe self-care, traveling, a hobby you love, or your career goals. Embrace everything that brings you inspiration and motivation!
2. Organize your images onto a physical or digital poster
After choosing the best images that represent yourself and your goals for the new year, start adding them to your vision board. I've created a fun template on Canva that you can edit for yourself. Just follow the link to start creating your awesome vision board!
A great part about Canva is that they also have stock images (some are free and others you may need to pay for) that you can choose from to help bring your vision to life.
I hope you achieve everything you desire in the new year ahead. Remember, this is our chance for a fresh start and to leave behind the negativity from 2020. Once the clock strikes midnight wherever you live, use this moment to step physically step into a new year and feel yourself releasing any baggage behind.
